Infanta, Quezon Mayor America injured after getting shot –Gov. Suarez


An unidentified suspect fired shots at Infanta, Quezon Mayor Filipina Grace America while she was inside a car, Governor Danilo Suarez told GMA News Online on Sunday.

Suarez said America sustained four gunshot wounds.

“There was an attempt on the life of the mayor of Infanta, Mayor Grace America,” he said.

“She was in the car and there were four gunshots. Apat na putok [four shots],” he added.

In a Super Radyo dzBB report of Rod Vega, Police Regional Office 4A (Calabarzon) Regional Director Police Brigadier General Antonio Yarra said America came from church on Sunday morning and was about to ride the vehicle around 11 a.m. when the shooting happened.

Suarez said that America is now waiting in a hospital in Infanta to be airlifted to a medical facility in Manila.

"Wala akong alam kung sino-sino gustong manakit kay Grace eh but [baka] political enemy 'yan," he said.

[I have no idea who wanted to harm Grace but it may be a political enemy.]

Suarez said will post updates on Facebook regarding the condition of the mayor.

GMA News stringer Peewee Bacuño posted photos on Twitter showing that the shots were fired at the right front window of the mayor's vehicle.

The police said investigation into the incident is ongoing. —KG, GMA News
