Davao City bans campaign motorcades, caravans

Citing the high fuel costs and traffic jams, Davao City has prohibited all campaign caravans and motorcades for the May 2022 elections.

“There is a need to prohibit motorcades and caravans due to the continuing increase of fuel costs, the inconvenience of the traffic jams it will create and the ongoing public want due to the economic losses from the pandemic coupled with the rising prices of basic commodities,” Executive Order No. 10 Series of 2022 signed by Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte stated.

“Local governments should use its powers in promoting the economic condition, social welfare and material progress of the people in the community,” the order added.

The order also said it is complying with the guidelines imposed by the Commission on Elections on in-person campaign; rallies; caucuses, meetings and conventions, miting de avance under the new normal, but with the exception of political caravans and motorcades which will not be allowed in the city.
