Minor damage reported in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro so far after magnitude 6.4 quake — MDRRMO


Minor damage on houses have been reported so far in Lubang, Occidental Mindoro after the magnitude 6.4 earthquake, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office  (MDRRMO) said Monday.

Interviewed on Dobol B TV, Lubang MDDRMO Jeremy Villas said barangay officials are still assessing the damage in their respective areas due to the earthquake.

In Barangay Vigo, Villas said three houses sustained minor damage like popping up of tiles and a crack on a beam, Villas said.

“Meron silang dalawang bahay na naturo sa amin na merong minor damage. Yung granite tiles umangat, anim na piraso siguro yun. Tapos yung wall, yung partition medyo umangat,” he said.

“Merong isang bahay din na medyo hindi naman po kagandahan na nagkaroon ng minor crack yung beam (Another house also had minor crack on a beam),” he added.

Villas said they expect the reports on damage will increase because authorities just started assessment on their areas.

No reported damage on government structures and all roads are passable, according to him.

Villas said the earthquake was so strong that some residents felt dizzy and their things moved. He added that his family was awakened by the earthquake.

A magnitude 6.4 earthquake hit offshore Occidental Mindoro on Monday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said.

The quake, which occurred at 5:05 a.m., had its epicenter along the Manila Trench at 14.05°N, 119.12°E - 110 km N 79° W of Lubang.

The earthquake had a depth of 29 kilometers and was tectonic in origin.

It was felt at Intensity III in Quezon City, Taguig City, Mandaluyong City, Makati City; and Intensity II in Talisay, Batangas, according to the PHIVOLCS. — RSJ, GMA News
