More than 500 dengue cases in Negros Occidental, says health officials
The health department continues its anti-dengue campaign but there is a notable increase in the number of dengue cases in some parts of the country, GMA News' Lei Alviz reported on "Saksi."
At least 511 dengue cases and five deaths were recorded in Negros Occidental this year.
The number of dengue cases in the province has increased by 200% compared to the same period last year when 174 cases were recorded.
Some residents have started cleaning up their surroundings as part of efforts to eliminate the vector that spreads the disease.
In Zamboanga City, there are 66 dengue cases recorded from May 23 to 28, 2022. The number of cases is lower by 100 compared to the previous week.
In Dipaculao town, Aurora the government is conducting misting and fogging operations and monitoring six dengue cases in five barangays.
Barangay Old Balara in Quezon City is also conducting anti-dengue activities.
According to the Department of Health, most of the cases are from Zamboanga Peninsula, central Visayas, and central Luzon.
The number of dengue cases in the country is 6 percent lower compared to the same period last year.
However, from March 20 to April 30 the agency noted an increase in cases by 94 percent compared to the same period last year.
The DOH advises the public to follow the 4S strategy against dengue: Search and destroy breeding places, Secure self-protection, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging and spraying in hot spot areas. -- BAP, GMA News
