MILF, MNLF members take special exam to join PNP

The Bangsamoro Information Office said around a thousand members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) took the special exam to join the national police force.

In a statement Monday, the office said the Special Qualifying Eligibility Examination by the National Police Commission (NAPOLCOM) was conducted in 14 school sites on Sunday.

NAPOLCOM Commissioner Atty. Ricardo Bernabe III clarified that passing the exam will only give eligibility to the former rebels to apply to the Philippine National Police (PNP).

“Once na mayroon na silang eligibility, 'yung PNP po ay magset-up ng recruitment, so doon na sila mag-a-apply and then 'yung PNP na rin ang gagawa ng kanilang guidelines for the recruitment process,” he said.

(Once they have eligibility, the PNP will set up a recruitment where the former rebels may apply and then the PNP will craft guidelines for the recruitment process.)

The conduct of the special qualifying exam for the entry of MILF and MNLF members into the PNP is in accordance with the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), the office said.

In December 2021, the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process said 5,250 of the 14,000 MILF combatants who are scheduled to be decommissioned under the third phase, were already decommissioned.

Remaining combatants will undergo the process this 2022, it added.

The decommissioning is part of the normalization track process under the Comprehensive Agreement on the Bangsamoro to help former combatants transform into peaceful and productive citizens.—Joviland Rita/AOL, GMA News
