Abandoned newborn baby found in Iligan City

A newborn baby was found abandoned along the highway in Purok 18A, Barangay Tomas Cabili in Iligan City on Monday.

According to Barangay Captain Cesarve Siacor, residents saw two persons onboard a motorcycle leaving an item wrapped in a bedsheet then hurriedly leaving the area.

They did not notice the item until they heard the cry of an infant.

Residents found the newborn female baby wrapped in a bedsheet with an umbilical cord still attached.

The infant was brought to the Gregorio Lluch Memorial Hospital for a medical checkup where she is under observation.

The police are conducting an investigation to find the parents of the infant, who may face charges.

Local officials, meanwhile, are calling on any one who may have information about the parents or at least the mother of the infant to get in touch with the nearest police station.  —BAP/KG, GMA News
