Another Bohol bridge collapses, no injuries recorded
TAGBILARAN CITY - A steel bridge in Catigbian town in Bohol province collapsed on Thursday morning.
Catigbian police said the 12-wheeler truck driven by Nemerico Paredes, 46, a resident of Calape town, carrying sand caused the Borja Bridge in Barangay Alegria to collapse.
Paredes wasn't injured.
Paredes said he came from La Paz, Cortes and was on his way to Alicia town when the bridge gave way as he passed by at past 7 a.m.
"It suddenly collapsed," said Paredes who has been using the same route many times in the past.
Provincial Engineer Camilo Gasatan said that overloading caused the bridge to collapse.
He said the load limit of the bridge is 20 tons, the truck was loaded with 24 cubic meter or a total weight of 46.4 tons of wet sand.
Anthony Damalerio, provincial disaster risk reduction management officer, said the truck is still at the site and will be removed with the use of heavy equipment on Friday.
The incident in Catigbian town was the second bridge to collapse in Bohol. The decades-old Clarin Bridge in Loay town collapsed last April, killing four people and injured at least 31 motorists. -- BAP, GMA News
