State of calamity declared in San Joaquin, Iloilo due to dengue

A state of calamity has been declared in the town of San Joaquin in Iloilo due to the continuous increase in dengue cases.

The San Joaquin municipal administrator said at least 105 people had fallen ill to the disease this month, according to a “24 Oras” report on Tuesday.

This is over 400% higher in dengue cases than the same period last year.

Aside from San Joaquin, the towns of Guimbal and Tubungan have also noted a rise in dengue cases.

There are 460 dengue cases in the entire province and most of the children who have been ill are aged 10 and below.

The local government unit said it has put in place preventive measures to curb the dengue outbreak in the province.—Mel Matthew Doctor/LDF, GMA News
