Cyclist shoots rider dead in Cavite after road altercation

A cyclist was arrested in Imus City, Cavite after allegedly gunning down a rider over road altercation.

According to Emil Sumangil’s report on “24 Oras”, 23-year-old victim Jonas dela Cruz was riding his motorcycle when shot by a bicycle-riding assailant. He was rushed to the hospital but passed away after 24 hours.

“May isang tama siya rito sa may pisngi na tumagos sa ulo niya,” Police Lt. Col. Jun Alamo,  Imus Cavite PNP Chief, said.

(He had a shot near his cheek that went through his head.)

Identified as Erwin Samaniego, the suspect was traced by the city police through the CCTV footage capturing the incident. He was apprehended in a follow-up operation where the murder weapon, a .22 magnum gun, was also seized from him.

Based on the initial investigation, it was road rage that led to the incident.

“Kaya ko lang naman nagawa yun kung hindi ako minura nang ganoon at ginitgit sa kalye...Wala na tayong magagawa at andyan na yan,” Samaniego told GMA News.

(I did that because he cursed me and was jostled on the street… I cannot do anything now because it already happened.)

Samaniego is now under the custody of the Imus City police. He will be charged with murder. -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA News
