DPWH completes 154-meter slope protection structure in La Union

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) on Wednesday announced it has completed the construction of a 154-meter slope protection structure along a landslide-prone area in San Fernando City, La Union.

In a statement, DPWH Region 1 Director Ronnel Tan lauded the agency’s La Union District Engineering Office for the fast construction of the project, which was completed within four months.

The 154-meter slope protection was constructed along San Fernando-Bagulin Road in Barangay Bacsil, San Fernando City, La Union.

The installation of erosion mats anchored with ground anchor nails along the landslide-prone section of the road cost P49 million, funded under the 2022 General Appropriations Act (GAA).

Tan said the project used “eco-friendly high-tensile wire mesh that keeps rock masses in place and maintains the stability of the slopes without harming the environment.”

“With the completion of this eco-friendly mitigation structure, motorists and residents can now safely pass through the mountainous portion of San Fernando-Bagulin Road without worrying about accidents,” he added. — Richa Noriega/BM, GMA News
