PHIVOLCS: 11 quakes recorded around Bulusan in 24-hr period
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) said Friday that at least 11 volcanic earthquakes were recorded around Bulusan Volcano within a 24-hour observation period.
Also, the volcano in the Bicol region emitted 499 tons of sulfur dioxide as of July 13, according to PHIVOLCS’ latest report.
Moreover, it had moderate emission of plumes that towered up to 300 meters before drifting north.
Alert Level 1 or low-level unrest is maintained over Bulusan, PHIVOLCS said, adding that the volcano's edifice is still inflated.
Entry into the four-kilometer radius permanent danger zone (PDZ) and entry without vigilance into the extended danger zone is still prohibited, PHIVOLCS advised.
Flying any aircraft close to the volcano is also not allowed as possible hazards can occur including sudden steam-driven or phreatic eruptions, it added.
