Lapu-Lapu City locals rescue infant abandoned in empty lot

An abandoned infant, a baby girl, was rescued from an empty lot in Lapu-Lapu City's Barangay Pajo, GMA News' Fe Marie Dumaboc reported Sunday on "24 Oras Weekend."

Last Saturday, a tricycle driver heard the infant's cries and immediately reported the matter to the local barangay chairman.

When found, the infant was filthy and covered with wounds, possibly from insect and animal bites.

After also informing the incident with the local police station, the infant was brought to the Lapu-Lapu City Hospital.

According to the doctors, the infant was a baby girl just five-days-old.

The baby girl is now in good condition, and she will be taken in by the City Social Welfare and Development Office.

Authorities are looking at CCTV footage taken near the empty lot to identify the person who abandoned the infant. — DVM, GMA News
