DepEd: Cracks seen at several Abra schools after magnitude 7 quake

Several schools in Abra showed cracks after a magnitude 7 earthquake hit the province Wednesday morning, the Department of Education (DepEd) said.

In a press conference, DepEd spokesperson Atty. Michael Poa said that their regional offices are continuing to monitor the situation in the areas affected by the earthquake.

“We are monitoring the situation on the part of DepEd. Meron tayong initial reports ng cracks ng schools sa Abra, and probably also in Vigan, but I cannot give you a statement unless may confirmation na from our field offices and regional offices,” Poa said.

He, however, said that there are no reported casualties yet from learners, teaching personnel, or DepEd staff.

Poa also said they will give an update if Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte will visit the schools affected by the earthquake.

For the part of the Office of the Vice President (OVP), Duterte’s spokesperson Atty. Reynold Munsayac said their satellite offices are currently offering medical and burial services to those affected by the earthquake.

“Ie-explore ho nating mabuti kung ano ‘yung mga pwedeng dalhin sa kanila lalo na doon sa mga communities na naapektuhan ng lindol,” he said.
