2 children drown in Cebu river

Two children drowned in a river in Mandaue City, Cebu province, according to a report on "24 Oras."

The victims Sam Calderon, 5 years old, and Alex Calderon, 7 years old, were playing with a friend in a river in Barangay Paknaan when they suddenly disappeared after they all went for a swim.

Their playmate immediately sought the help of authorities following the incident. Their bodies were recovered at the chest-deep portion of the waters.

They were rushed to the hospital but were declared dead on arrival.

The victims' parents were grieving over the tragedy, the report said. -- Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA News
