Magat Dam terminates spilling operation

The Magat Dam in Isabela has ceased releasing excess water, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) said on Tuesday.

A report from the NIA-Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MARIIS) said they closed the dam’s floodgate due to the moderate inflow of water from the Magat watershed.

“Kaakibat ng pagsasara at pagtatapos ng pre-release, tinatapos na rin ang mga sumusunod: spilling and warning operation at termination of dam discharge warning,” it wrote on Facebook.

(Along with the closing and ending of the pre-release, the following are also terminated: spilling and warning operation and termination of dam discharge warning.)

However, residents were still advised to avoid crossing and grazing their livestock in nearby rivers due to the possible increase in water levels.

The dam released about 200 cubic meters of water starting at 2 p.m. on Sunday as rains due to the Southwest Monsoon and a low pressure area continued to pour.

At 6 a.m. on August 8, the dam had one gate open at one meter.

Magat Dam’s reservoir water level (RWL) was at 188.19 meters at 6 a.m. on Monday, which is near the 190-meter spilling level. — Mel Matthew Doctor/BM, GMA News
