Kalibo imposes curfew on minors amid increased crime rate

Kalibo, Aklan Mayor Juris Sucro ordered a curfew on minors amid the municipality's increased crime rate.

Based on Executive Order No. 026 signed on August 11, the mayor ordered a municipality-wide curfew on minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next day.

“The large number of minors who are permitted to remain in public places and establishments at night in the absence of adult supervision has, in part, caused this increase in crime rate in the municipality,” the order read.

“Regulating the hours during which minors may remain in public places and certain establishments without adult supervision, and imposition of certain duties and responsibilities upon the parents or adult persons who have custody of or responsibility for minors, can reduce the amount of crime,” it stated.

The municipality also imposed closing times for establishments, with last orders at videoke bars and other similar establishments set at 11:30 p.m. with closing time at 1 a.m.

Convenience stores and sari-sari stores shall also be prohibited from selling and dispensing liquor or intoxicating beverages from 11:30 p.m. to 4 a.m. the next day.

The said orders shall take effect immediately, according to the mayor. —Richa Noriega/DVM, GMA News
