Magat Dam to release water amid continuous rains

Magat Dam, which crosses the provinces of Ifugao and Isabela, is set to release water on Wednesday, August 17 to ensure a safe water level in the reservoir amid the continuous rains brought by the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat).

In an advisory issued Tuesday, the National Irrigation Administration Magat River Integrated Irrigation System (NIA-MRIIS) disclosed that 200 cubic meters of water will be released from the watershed at around 2 p.m. on Wednesday.

This is equivalent to the amount of water entering the watershed but may still vary depending on the rainfall over the reservoir, it added.

“Kaugnay nito, aming pinapakiusap na iwasan muna natin ang pagtawid, pamamalagi at pati pagpapastol ng ating mga alagang hayop sa ilog o katabi nito para makaiwas sa anumang sakuna dulot ng maaaring pagtaas ng tubig,” NIA-MRIIS said in a statement.

(In relation to this, we urge the public to refrain from crossing, staying near, or grazing their animals in the river or nearby areas to ensure everyone’s safety due to the expected rise in water level.)

As of 6 a.m. on August 16, Magat Dam's reservoir water level (RWL) was at 188.73 meters, close to its 190-meter spilling level. — Sundy Locus/BM, GMA News
