Batanes farmers seek buyers for their garlic

Farmers in Itbayat, Batanes are appealing for help in selling their garlic, according to a report on "24 Oras."

Out of the 60 metric tons of garlic harvested in Itbayat, 25 have yet to be sold.

The Batanes provincial government has bought half to help the farmers. The rest is already in danger of going to waste.

The storage facility of the provincial agriculture office is also already full.

To address the issue, the local government has already reached out to small businesses to augment spaces for keeping the stocks.

The farmers, meanwhile, appealed to the public not put a very low price on garlic so they could still recoup their capital.—Mel Matthew Doctor/LDF, GMA News
