Teacher hits students doing chalkboard work, gets suspended
A public school teacher who went viral in August after hitting two of her students as they were solving math problems on the board in April is now under investigation by the Department of Education.
According to Joseph Morong's report on "24 Oras", the teacher in Dinglayan, Kalinga is also the subject of a complaint for grave misconduct and has been placed under suspension.
The DepEd said it is high time that they look into the conditions of their personnel with the resumption of face-to-face classes.
“That was naman not the usual character of the teacher, kaya nga oo, kaya nga yung, nagsisisi na rin siya. Actually, humihingi rin siya ng kapatawaran sa mga parents ng mga bata,” said Estela Cariño, DepEd regional director in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).
(That was not the usual character of the teacher. She’s regretful and actually, she was asking for the parents’ forgiveness.)
“Kahit may kasalanan ‘yug teacher naiintindihan din natin kung ano ‘yung, baka may pinagdadaanan,” she added.
(Although she was at fault, we understand because maybe she is having problems.)
According to DepEd, they have received reports of abuses on their email address and hotline numbers. Of the reports, the highest number of cases are those of corporal punishment.
“We acknowledge the email and then get their contact numbers and kami na mismo ang tumatawag sa kanila para alam nila na napansin yung email nila at alam nila na may ginagawa kami,” DepEd Spokesperson Michael Poa said.
