Zambales local, over 30 heads of livestock killed as dike gives way due to Karding

A Cabangan, Zambales resident was swept away and died in a flood when an earth dike gave way during the onslaught of Typhoon Karding.

In Jun Veneracion’s Monday report on “24 Oras,” Cabangan Mayor Ronald Apostol said the victim was trying to save a farm animal but was overwhelmed by the flood.

“Gusto niyang kunin ang kanyang alagang baka. Siguro parang nahihila na siya ng agos. Tapos tinali niya raw sa bewang niya ‘yung tali ng baka. Siguro sa lakas ng agos nasama na rin siya,” said

At least three towns were submerged in floodwaters while some 30 heads of livestock also died in the flood.

“Malakas talaga ang tubig po… aabot sa bintana ko eh. Kaya lumikas na rin ako,” Jimmy Encarnacion, a resident, said.

Meanwhile, a tree fell on a house and a store in Botolan town due to strong winds.

No one was hurt in the incident.

Meanwhile, Zambales Governor Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. said that they had attempted to minimize casualties by preemptively evacuating more than 1,000 families before the Karding hit. — Mel Matthew Doctor/DVM, GMA News
