Magat Dam to open one gate due to Maymay —NIA

The Magat Dam in Northern Luzon will open one of its gates in anticipation of expected heavy inflow due to Tropical Depression Maymay, the National Irrigation Administration (NIA) announced late Tuesday.

In an advisory, the NIA said one of the dam's gates will be opened on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.

“In anticipation of the expected heavy inflow due to Tropical Depression Maymay, Radical gate #4 of the Magat Dam will be opened tomorrow, October 12, 2022 at 4:30 in the afternoon,” NIA said.

“Gate opening is at 1 meter with an approximate discharge of 200 cubic meter per second (cms),” it added.

Meanwhile, the weather bureau on Tuesday said six areas in Luzon remain under Storm Signal No. 1 as Tropical Depression Maymay is seen almost stationary over the Philippine Sea.

PAGASA said Maymay is forecast to move slowly westward or remain almost stationary in the next 12 hours before gradually accelerating westward towards Central Luzon.

On the forecast track, the center of this tropical cyclone may make landfall in the vicinity of Aurora by Wednesday evening or Thursday early morning before it traverses the landmass of Central Luzon.—Richa Noriega/LDF, GMA News
