Cagayan province under State of Calamity due to damage from typhoons
The entire province of Cagayan has been placed under a State of Calamity due to the destruction left by the onslaught of at least four typhoons that hit the country.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Cagayan Provincial Information Office said this was approved by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan during their special session on Monday.
According to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMO), at least 66,510 families or 232,982 individuals were affected, while some of them were repeatedly flooded due to typhoons Florita, Maymay, Neneng, and Obet.
The PDRRMO said the total cost of damage to agriculture reached P565,803,322; P78,399,000 in infrastructure; and P4,018,118 in livestock.
Meanwhile, Bonifacio Cuarteros of the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO) said they continue to distribute aid to those affected by the typhoons.
A total of 10,894 individuals were affected in Northern Luzon due to the recent Tropical Depression Obet, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Sunday.
