Magnitude 5.2 quake jolts Surigao del Sur, nearby areas


A magnitude 5.2 quake struck Lingig, Surigao del Sur on Tuesday night, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) reported.

According to PHIVOLCS’ earthquake bulletin, the tectonic quake occurred at 9:20 p.m. with a depth of 64 kilometers.

The epicenter of the quake was 37 kilometers northeast of Lingig, Surigao del Sur.

PHIVOLCS said the quake was felt, in varying intensity, in the following areas:

  • Intensity V - Lingig, and Bislig City, Surigao del Sur
  • Intensity IV - Lianga, and Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur
  • Intensities III - Monkayo, Nabunturan, New Bataan, Laak, Compostella Valley, and Montevista, Davao de Oro
  • Intensity II - Maco, Mawab, and Pantukan, Davao de Oro
  • Intenisty I - Cagwait, Surigai del Sur; Bayugan, Agusan del Sur

The agency said no damage is expected but aftershocks may occur. -- BAP, GMA News
