Infra damage, power interruptions reported after Abra quake —NDRRMC


 Damage to infrastructures and houses as well as power interruptions were reported following late Tuesday night's magnitude 6.4 earthquake in Abra, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said.

In its initial report released on Tuesday morning, the NDRRMC said two infrastructures were damaged in Allacapan, Cagayan. The municipal government said two roads sustained minor cracks.

In Aparri, two houses were damaged — one partially and one totally.

Power interruptions were experienced in Allacapan and Gattaran, Cagayan, according to the NDRRMC.

Portions of the Iglesia Filipina Independiente church in La Paz, Abra, were also damaged by the earthquake, it added. Photos show large cracks on walls and ceilings of the church building.

Classes in Abra, Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and Bontoc, Mountain Province were suspended on Wednesday due to the quake.

Based on its earthquake bulletin, PHIVOLCS said the epicenter of the quake, which struck at 10:59 p.m., was seven kilometers northwest of Lagayan, Abra.

The earthquake, which was tectonic in origin, had a depth of 11 kilometers, it added. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA News
