Man electrocuted while trying to help firefighters

A 21-year-old man was killed by a live wire as he was trying to help firefighters put out a fire in a residential area in Talisay City, Cebu, ahead of the Christmas holidays.

The casualty was identified as Jonard Requilme, who was hit and electrocuted by a live wire. His mother is now seeking assistance.

According to Lei Alviz's report on “24 Oras Weekend” on Sunday, Talisay Bureau of Fire Protection SFO3 Guiller Pegarido said the victim was transported by emergency medical services to the hospital but was declared dead on arrival.

The fire was said to have hit a fire-prone area, and spread due to the houses being close together, with narrow roads hindering the speedy operation.  A nearby fire hydrant was also unusable.

Pegarido said the fire reached up to a third alarm, with damage estimated at P1.521 million. — Jon Viktor D. Cabuenas/BM, GMA Integrated News
