Residents of Barangay San Juan in Sogod, Southern Leyte can now enjoy their new bridge constructed by the GMA Kapuso Foundation.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Friday, Typhoon Odette damaged the old hanging bridge in the area last year.

The old bridge was also dangerous for the residents, as it was only made of wood.

"Nakakatakot ang tulay namin, kasi kapag umuulan madulas ang tabla [Our bridge was scary, because when it rained the wood got slippery]," said Kenjie Dacera, a student.

To help the residents who depend on the bridge to go to school and take their products to town, the GMA Kapuso Foundation began constructing a 70-meter concrete bridge in September.

The new Kapuso Tulay, the first in Visayas and the seventh in the country, is now finished and has been unveiled ahead of Christmas.

"Halos isang taon matapos nanalasa ang bagyong Odette, ito po ang Christmas gift ng GMA Network at GMA Kapuso Foundation sa mga tao ng Sogod, Southern Leyte," said Rikki Escudero-Catibog, the EVP/COO of GMA Kapuso Foundation.

("Almost a year after Typhoon Odette wreaked havoc, this is the Christmas gift of GMA Network and GMA Kapuso Foundation to the residents of Sogod, Southern Leyte.")

The GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
