Appeals for donation were launched to help the victims of the recent flash floods in Mindanao.

In a Facebook post, the Caritas Manila, social service and development arm of the Archdiocese of Manila, called for donations to provide relief and rehabilitation assistance to the victims of Misamis Occidental flooding.

It said among the immediate needs are ready to eat food, clean water, hygiene kits, and medicine kits.

The Caritas Manila said the donations may be sent through donation portals on their Facebook post.

Meanwhile, the non-government organization Angat Buhay - Zamboanga Del Sur was also asking for help to aid fellow residents.

The group said in-kind items may drop off to their location, while cash donations may be sent to their bank or GCASH posted on its Facebook post.

Several colleges and student councils in Misamis Occidental were also appealing for help.

In-kind and cash donations may also be sent to the College of Business and Management in Misamis University, the Student Council of the Gov. Alfonso D. Tan College, and Youth and Students for Peace Pilipinas - Misamis Occidental Chapter.

The details of their location and bank were provided on their respective Facebook posts.

The number of reported fatalities due to flooding caused by rains in some parts of the Visayas and Mindanao since the Christmas weekend rose to 25, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) said Wednesday.

In its 6 a.m. report, the NDRRMC said 16 deaths were reported in Northern Mindanao, five in Bicol, two in Eastern Visayas, and two in Zamboanga.

Several areas in the Visayas and Mindanao were flooded on Christmas Day on Sunday due to the effects of the shear line, the weather system formed by the meeting between a cold front and a warmer front. — Richa Noriega/RSJ, GMA Integrated News
