Death toll due to shear line rains climbs to 39 —NDRRMC
The reported death toll due to the heavy rains caused by the shear line in parts of Visayas and Mindanao climbed to 39, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday night.
Based on its 6 p.m. report, the NDRRMC said at least 21 deaths were reported in Region 10, while six deaths in Region 5, four each in Region 9 and 11, three in Region 8, and one in Caraga.
The agency said 11 of the deaths have been confirmed, while 28 others are still up for validation.
At least 25 persons are missing and 12 others are injured, according to the NDRRMC.
A total of 130,844 families or 503,802 persons were affected by the rains and flooding, of whom 15,418 families or 66,761 persons are staying at 179 evacuation centers, while 10,919 families or 41,146 persons are served outside evacuation centers.
Meanwhile, at least 4,581 damaged houses were reported in Mimaropa, Regions 6, 8, 9, 10, 11, Caraga, and BARMM.
The damage in agriculture also increased to P228,327,298, while the estimated cost of damage to infrastructure amounting to P110,425,000 was reported in Mimaropa, Regions 5, 10, 11, and Caraga.
A total of 21 cities and municipalities were declared under the state of calamity, the agency said.
An assistance of P49,634,597 were provided in Mimaropa, Regions 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, and Caraga.
The weather bureau PAGASA on Thursday said the shear line will bring cloudy skies with rains to central and southern Luzon, while the Northeast Monsoon or Amihan will affect northern Luzon.
According to PAGASA's 4 p.m. weather forecast, Mimaropa, Calabarzon, Cagayan, Isabela, and Aurora will experience cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms due to shear line.
The weather bureau advised for possible flash floods or landslides due to moderate to at times heavy rains. — BM, GMA Integrated News
