DOH: PH hospital admissions manageable with COVID-19 out of Top 10 causes of death

Department of Health (DOH) officer-in-charge Maria Rosario Vergeire on Wednesday said that hospital admissions in the country have become manageable with COVID-19 no longer among the Philippines’ Top 10 causes of deaths.

Based on data released by the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on January 23, COVID-19 with virus was identified as the 11th leading cause of death in the Philippines, with 9,749 cases or 2.3% of the total deaths from January to September 2022.

Vergeire welcomed this development as COVID-19 became the third leading cause of mortality in the country in 2021. She said that this means the death trends in the country already came back to the way they used to.

“Pero ngayon, base sa report, nakita natin na ang COVID-19 deaths bumaba na ang pwesto dito sa leading causes natin. Naging pang-labing isa na lang siya and that signifies na kakaonti na lang ang mga namamatay from COVID dito sa ating bansa, and we are able to prevent already further deaths because of this disease,” she said in a media forum.

(But now, based on the report, we have seen that COVID-19 has dropped in our leading causes of deaths. It just became the eleventh and that means that there are only a few people dying from COVID here in our country, and we are already able to prevent further deaths because of this disease.) —NB, GMA Integrated News
