Cop tagged as suspect in Butuan couple slay

A couple was killed after being shot several times allegedly by a police officer in Butuan City, according to a GMA Regional TV One Mindanao report on "Saksi" on Wednesday.

A CCTV footage showed a vehicle slowing down to a stop and two women getting out.

Shortly after a man holding a firearm approached the vehicle and shot at a person inside several times. He proceeded to shoot one of the women who returned to the check on the vehicle.

He then trained his weapon toward the vehicle and shot the passenger again several times before walking away from the scene.

The victims were identified as Mary Anne and Charlie Añasco.

The suspect was identified as Police Senior Master Sergeant Darwin Plaza Nolasco, who was assigned at the Dinagat Municipal Police Station on Dinagat Island.

The report said Nolasco is a neighbor of the Añasco couple and that he allegedly holds a grudge against Charlie Añasco. The police are looking into jealousy as one of the motives for the crime.

"Allegedly, jealousy ang motive ng insidente, but as of this time, pinaigting pa yung imbestigasyon kung ano ba talaga yung puno't dulo ng pangyayari," said Butuan City Police Office spokesperson Captain Ann Cubio.

The suspect has been arrested and his service firearm, which is believed to be the gun used in committing the crime, was confiscated.

Nolasco, who has not yet issued a statement, may face a murder complaint. -- BAP, GMA Integrated News
