A suspected Abu Sayyaf bomber was arrested in a joint law enforcement operation in Zamboanga City, according to Sam Nielsen’s Super Radyo dzBB report on Friday.

In a joint operation by the Philippine National Police (PNP), Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Presidential Anti-Organized Crime Commission (PAOCC), the suspect, identified as Omar Mabanza, was arrested in Sitio Sapa Dulian, Barangay Calabasa.

He was arrested while the authorities were serving a warrant of arrest for his cohort, Jomar Mohammad, who managed to escape.

Authorities monitored the group that came to Barangay Calabasa for a bombing operation.

Various equipment and materials that will be used for the bombing operation were recovered from the suspect.

The group failed to conduct its bombing operation, which was meant to be a distraction in order to save the high-profile inmates of San Ramon Penal Colony, according to the authorities. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
