Four suspected New People's Army rebels were killed following a clash with government security forces in Negros Occidental on Wednesday, the Armed Forces of the Philippine said Thursday.

In a statement, Colonel Jorry Baclor, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office, said the encounter between elements of the Army's 94th Infantry Battalion and about 20 insurgents occurred in Himamaylan City.

Baclor said the government troops responded to information given by concerned residents about the presence of the rebels in Barangay Carabalan.

The ensuing encounter resulted in the death of four rebels and the recovery of six firearms  consisting of two M16 rifles, two M203 grenade launchers, and two  AK47 rifles.

"We will not allow you to continue harming our people. Expect relentless and intensified military operations in the coming days and weeks, for we are determined to protect Negrenses from your atrocities. Despite this, we are still offering you peace to start a new life with your family, but if you insist on doing terrorism, we can be your worst nightmare," Brigadier General Marion Sison, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, was quoted in the statement as saying. — RSJ, GMA Integrated News
