PDLs in General Trias produce artworks, eco-friendly bags for sale

The opportunity to use their skills and time to produce artwork and eco-friendly bags is giving a positive outlook to persons deprived of liberty at the General Trias Jail in Cavite.

According to Marisol Abdurahman’s “24 Oras” report on Tuesday, PDLs spend their time creating colorful and eco-friendly bags to make their life more meaningful while detained.

“Lumilipas po ang aming oras na meron pong kabuluhan yung aming pananatili dito sa aming pansamantalanag tahanan,” said Ben, one of the PDLs who make bags for sale.

Other PDLs make handicrafts like miniature “bahay kubo,” ships inside bottles, wall decors, and paintings to have an income.

“Nagkakaroon ng pagkakataon yung mga kapwa ko PDL na malaman kung anong mayroon silang kayang gawin habang nandito kami,” another PDL said.

“Lumilipas ang oras nila na they have something to do and of course sila po ay kumikita rin,” Major Aris Villaester, warden of General Trias City Jail, said.

“You can help them give a second chance para pambayad sa kanilang pampalaya or requirements nila for release (this will fund their bail or requirements for their release,” he added. —Sundy Locus/NB, GMA Integrated News
