3 suspects in Adiong slay try nabbed in Bukidnon —police


Three suspects in last month's ambush on Lanao del Sur Governor Mamintal Alonto Adiong Jr. were arrested Friday morning in Bukidnon, according to a report by Mark Makalalad on Super Radyo dzBB.

Citing Police Major Joann Navarro, spokesperson for Police Regional Office 10, the report said the three were arrested in connection with a warrant issued against them for frustrated murder and illegal possession of firearms.

Based on a police report, the arrested suspects were identified as Palawan Salem Macalbo, 34 years old;  Nagac Dimatangkil Baratomo, 38; and Amirodin Dimantingkal Mandoc, 29.

The police said Macalbo was arrested by virtue of an arrest warrant for a murder case in 2019. Baratomo and Mandoc were arrested for violation of the firearms law, it added.

“The arrested persons were included as alleged suspects of the recent ambuscade conducted against Governor Adiong of Lanao Del Sur,” the police report said.

Confiscated from the suspects were a Colt M16 rifle, grenade, Colt M16 magazine loaded with eight pieces of ammunition and a rifle grenade, police said.

The three are now under the custody of Kalilangan Municipal Police Station for documentation and proper disposition.

On February 17, gunmen ambushed the convoy of Adiong in Kalilangan, Bukidnon and killed four of his companions.

The fatalities were identified as Police Staff Sergeant Mohammad Jurai Mipanga Adiong, 40; Police Corporal Johanie Lawi Sumandar, 39; Police Corporal Jalil Ampuan Cosain, 40, and a driver identified only as Kobi.

Adiong and two of his staff were hurt in the attack.

One of the suspects, identified only as Otin, was killed in a shootout with the police days later. —with Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
