Fur parents in Negros Occidental to file charges vs neighbor who 'butchered' pet

A family in Cauayan, Negros Occidental is determined to file charges against one of their neighbors who allegedly butchered their pet dog after it was run over by a vehicle.

According to a report of GMA Regional TV One Western Visayas’ Adrian Prieto,  the Escultura family said their furbaby “Xavier” died after getting run over by a still unidentified vehicle and driver on March 5.

A resident admitted to getting their pet’s remains and dismembering its body.

“Pag-open namin sa katawan ni Xavier, na-chop-chop na siya. Masakit. Ang iba hindi nila maintindihan kasi para sa kanila aso lang si Xavier. Pero para sa amin mahal namin siya tapos nakita namin na binalatan na siya, mabaho na,” they said.

(After we opened Xavier’s body, we saw that it was chopped. It hurts. other people might understand but we love him. )

Authorities declined to name the suspect as the barangay hearing on the case is still ongoing.

“Supposed to be sana inilibing na lang kasi hindi natin alam baka may rabies ang aso o wala,” said NOCPPO Spokesperson Lieutenant Judesses G. Catalogo.

(The dog was supposed to be buried, we don’t know if the dog has rabies or not.)

“May batas tayo na Animal Welfare Act. May nagmamay-ari sa aso, so it is the rightful owners' decision na ibigay ang respect sa aso,” he added.
