Comelec: Voters OK split of Barangay Muzon, San Jose del Monte into 4


Voters in Barangay Muzon in San Jose del Monte City, Bulacan, on Saturday backed the measure dividing the village into four independent barangays.
 
Results of the plebiscite showed 12,324 people voted “yes” to splitting the village, while 969 voted “no,” according to the Commission on Elections.
 
Less than half of the registered voters participated in the plebiscite, or 13,322 out of 43,771, for a voter turnout of 30.44%.

According to Republic Act 11896, Muzon will be divided into four barangays, namely: Barangay Muzon Proper, Barangay Muzon East, Barangay Muzon West, and Barangay Muzon South.

“Should the yes votes prevail, said new barangays, along with its respective independent local government units, will have its own distinct territorial bounds, separate and distinct from each other, thereafter, have its own set of officials, as well as its respective shares in the National Tax Allotment pursuant to Section 285 as provided under the Local Government Code,” the Comelec said in a statement.

The Comelec said 78 clustered precincts, situated in four voting centers, were opened for the plebiscite. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
