2,000 Lubao college students receive P2,000 aid from gov’t
At least 2,000 college students received monetary aid from the local government in Lubao, Pampanga.
Lubao Mayor Esmie Pineda distributed educational subsidies at the Barangay Santa Cruz and municipal gymnasium on Wednesday.
The local government said it allocated P4 million for the municipality's Educational Financial Assistance Program (EFAP), which aims to alleviate the financial burden of students belonging to the poorest families in the community.
The program opened in April, with 2,500 slots initially offered, but only 2,000 students were qualified to receive the financial grants. Most beneficiaries are enrolled at Don Honorio Ventura State University.
Students were granted P2,000 for the upcoming semester and an additional P2,000 before the start of the second semester.
However, students included in the special program for the employment of students (SPES) were excluded from the subsidy.
Pineda said the remaining slots from the initial 2,500 will be allocated to graduating college students. — Sherylin Untalan/BM, GMA Integrated News
