BARMM mourns death of Grand Mufti

The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao is mourning the passing of Grand Mufti Abuhuraira Udasan, a respected influential religious leader and preacher of the Bangsamoro.

The Grand Mufti died on Monday morning in his home in Cotabato City.  He was 81.

“He will always be remembered as a renowned head of the Bangsamoro Islamic Advisory Council and for his life-long service and dedication to the Bangsamoro struggle. He left a void that is impossible to fill,” Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Grand Mufti served as the leader of the Office of Bangsamoro Darul Ifta (BDI), often handling the issuance of fatwas (religious sermons) and providing legal opinion on matters involving Muslim personal laws and jurisprudence.

He is viewed as a revered figure in the Bangsamoro community and is considered one of the pillars of the Bangsamoro struggle and government.—Jiselle Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
