Negros Oriental residents to receive bridge from GMA Kapuso Foundation

A barangay in Mabinay, Negros Oriental is getting a bridge from the GMA Kapuso Foundation to help its residents cross a river safely.

According to a report on "24 Oras," Wednesday, Brgy. Abis residents always have a hard time crossing the river just to reach their destinations, including children's schools.

"Kapag mahina na 'yung tubig bubuhatin ko 'yung anak ko para makatalon sa baha," said Elevemae Pioquinto, a resident of the barangay.

Another resident named Boyet Acab recalled, "Noong emergency dito, yung matanda dadalhin sana sa ospital kaso na-trap dahil baha eh."

According to GMA Kapuso Foundation's consultant, Engr. Edgar Eniego, the bridge is already 20% done.

"Dito sa abutment A may poste na tayo, dun naman sa kabila binubuhusan na 'yung pinaka-first layer ng poste," he said.

"Laking pasasalamat namin dito, kaming mga residente, dahil hindi na balakid sa pag-aaral. Yung mga bata at tsaka kapag may emergency, makatawid agad," Boyet said.

For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation is accepting donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
