1 killed, 13 hurt in bus mishap in Davao Oriental

MANILA, Philippines - A passenger was killed while 13 others were injured after the bus they were riding fell off a bridge in Tarragona town in Davao Oriental Sunday night. Radio dzBB's Benjie Liwanag Jr reported Monday morning that the incident involved a "Bachelor" bus that lost its brakes and fell off the bridge at 8:30 p.m. The bus, with Body 4776, was plying the Davao route and passing Tarragona town when the driver lost control of the vehicle. Driver Roberto Abing and conductor Danny Castillana were among those injured, the report said. Initial reports identified the fatality as Angelita Simbogay, who had a heart condition that worsened after she was hit on the head as the bus fell from the bridge. She reportedly took the bus to go to a hospital for treatment, initial police reports said. Most of the injured were rushed to the Davao Oriental Provincial Hospital in Mati City, and to the Saint Camillas Hospital. Tarragona is a fourth-class town with a population of 22,846 people in 4,458 households. - GMANews.TV
