Goring brings flood, landslide in Cagayan, Ilocos


Super Typhoon Goring  brought strong winds and rains that triggered flooding and landslide in Cagayan and Ilocos provinces, according to a report by Ivy Hernando of GMA Regional TV One North Central Luzon.                                           

In Caoayan, Ilocos Sur, a river that overflowed caused the soil to collapse near the riverbank.

“Inopen yang delta para lalabas ‘yang tubig from Mestizo River, pero ang nangyari is masyadong lumaki so naaapektuhan ‘yung mga residente doon sa Sitio Kurukudan, although nagpasand bagging naman na sila mayor diyan,” said Caoayan Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council officer Hanz Quebral.

Despite the condition, residents refused to leaves their homes.  Some evacuate to higher grounds for safety at night.

The municipalities of Sta. Teresita and Gattaran in Cagayan reported severe flooding in their areas, with over 20 barangays losing electricity supply.

“Sa ngayon po ay nagko-collate pa lang tayo ng mga datos, pero ang estimate ko po aabot po ulit ng daan-daang milyon [in damages], katulad po noong dating bagyo po ulit na Egay,” said Cagayan Vice Governor Melvin Vargas Jr.

In Batac City, Ilocos Norte several areas were inundated after the Quiaoit River overflowed.

In Laoag City, authorities are on alert as the water level in a river continue to rise.  Landslides were also seen in Pagudpud City blocking a portion of a road.

Intermittent rains caused flooding in Ivana and Basco, Batanes. Several families were also evacuated in Narvacan, Bantay and Vigan in Ilocos Sur.

Meanwhile, officials recorded a tornado at around 2 p.m. in San Ildefonso, Bulacan which destroyed a house.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
