Mactan Bridge pillar cracks after vessel crash - report

CEBU CITY, Philippines - One of the pillars of the old Mactan-Mandaue Bridge cracked after a barge crashed into it Sunday morning, authorities said. Officials of the Mactan Cebu Bridge Management Board said the crack on the pillar was a minor one and assured motorists that the bridge was safe, GMA Network’s Balitang Bisdak reported Monday. The report said that strong current along the Mactan-Cebu channel caused a tugboat to lose control and the barge it was towing smashed into the pillar. The Asian Shipping Corp., owner of the barge MT Marc, promised to shoulder the repair of the damaged portion of the bridge. - GMANews.TV
