Pet owner faces complaints after mauling, beating dog to death

A pet owner who reportedly mauled and beat his dog to death in Taytay, Rizal is now facing complaints for animal cruelty.

A video of the incident that occurred in a tricycle terminal went viral online, according to Marisol Abdurahman’s report on “24 Oras”.

It garnered reactions from netizens including Gianne Yupangco who filed a complaint against the suspect.

(I was so angry, I teared up. I cannot accept what he did because I am a pet owner too. If he can do that to animals, then he can possibly harm other people. That’s what I was thinking.)

The municipal police and the League of Animal Welfare Organizations of the Philippines (LAWOP) went to the location of the incident but the suspect was nowhere to be found.

(We went there to verify the incident and ask for his side of the story. Unfortunately, we did not see the person in the video.)

Meanwhile, the animal welfare organization expressed alarm over the incident and said they are eyeing to file a separate complaint against the suspect. They also found an abandoned puppy at the suspect’s place.

“This is a prima facie evidence of animal cruelty. With the police here, we can probably file a complaint already of an ongoing commission of a crime of animal cruelty outside of the video. That's in addition,” said LAWOP Senior Animal Welfare Advocate Norman Marquez. — Sundy Locus/BAP, GMA Integrated News
