Bomb joke temporarily suspends flights at Bicol airport

The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines temporarily suspended flight operations at the Bicol International Airport in Daraga, Albay on Monday due to a 'bomb joke'.

In a Super Radyo dzBB report by Nimfa Rafelo, CAAP spokesperson Eric Apolonio said someone made a bomb joke on Cebu Pacific Airlines Flight 5J 326 while it is still on the runway.

The incident happened at 10:45 a.m.

According to the initial investigation, someone left a note in the plane's comfort room.

As a precautionary measure, the runway was closed, and passengers were offloaded and brought to the arrival area for security inspection.

CAAP and airport personnel inspected baggages and hand-carried items of the passengers.

The suspension interrupted five arriving and five departing flights.

As of 2 p.m., Bicol International Airport's operation was back to normal.

The authorities found no bomb, but the investigation continued. They also contacted the Philippine National Police (PNP) Aviation Security Group for further assistance.—Sherylin Untalan/AOL, GMA Integrated News
