Over 15K fisherfolk in Zambales receive food packs from GMA Kapuso Foundation
Over 15,000 fisherfolk in Masinloc, Zambales received food packs from the GMA Kapuso Foundation amid Chinese presence at the Scarborough Shoal.
According to a report on "24 Oras," Monday, fisherfolk are afraid of entering the shoal, also called Bajo de Masinloc, because of the Chinese vessels patrolling the area.
"Natatakot kami sa laki ng konsumo baka bigla naman silang mangharass, baka malugi na naman kami," said Floro Delehencia, one of the fisherfolk.
Floro said his father was already fishing at Bajo de Masinloc before he was even born.
Anthony Collado, another fisherman, said the shoal yields tons of seafood back when they were still able to catch fish there freely.
"Di magkapanayaw sa isda na papanain," he said. "Marami dun ma'am lapu-lapu, talakitok. 'Pag panahon ng January, pugita naman."
Now that the fisherfolk are unable to enter Bajo de Masinloc, the GMA Kapuso Foundation brought aid to the fisherfolk to help them in these trying times.
"Salamat po sa GMA Kapuso," Anthony said. "Malaking bagay po at malaking tulong dahil ilang araw rin kaming hindi nakapalaot."
For those who are interested to help, the GMA Kapuso Foundation accepts donations through bank deposits, Cebuana Lhuillier, GCash, Shopee, PayMaya, Zalora, MegaMart, Globe Rewards, Metrobank credit card, and Lazada.
