Bangsamoro parliament condemns acts of violence by both Israel, Hamas

The Bangsamoro Transition Authority (BTA) Parliament has adopted a resolution "condemning" the "continuing acts of violence" by Israel against the Palestinians and by the Hamas group against the civilians of Israel.

A separate social media post said the Bangsamoro lawmakers also called for the "immediate declaration of an unconditional cessation of hostilities" between Israel and Hamas.

Proposed Resolution No. 443 adopted on October 16, 2023 said "the means employed by Israel to retaliate with the Hamas militant group is to the detriment of civilians, including men and women, patients in the hospitals, the old, the infant, and the unborn who are clearly deprived of the basic human rights."

According to the measure, the "long-standing Israel-Palestine dispute once again shocked the world as Israel intensifies airstrikes over Gaza in retaliation to a surprise attack by Hamas militant group last October 7."

The Bangsamoro lawmakers called on the Israeli government to "allow the entry of humanitarian assistance in the City of Gaza to address the people's immediate needs."

They also called on the Hamas group to "abide by the International Humanitarian Law in the pursuit of their aspirations for the people of Palestine."

The resolution was authored by BTA Parliament Deputy Speaker Omar Yasser Sema.

Last week, President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. said that the Philippines stands with Israel following the deadly attacks by the Hamas.

Marcos gave the assurance as Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss met him at the Malacañang Palace to discuss the latest situation in Israel.

The Presidential Communications Office said that Marcos also expressed his concern for the Filipinos who remain unaccounted for.—LDF, GMA Integrated News
