4 dead as car slams into truck in Antipolo City

Four people were killed in a road accident along Marcos Highway in Antipolo City, Rizal, early Monday morning, police said.

Interviewed on Super Radyo dzBB, Police Lieutenant Colonel Ryan Manongdo, chief of Antipolo Police, said all the victims were male youngsters aged 21 to 22 years old and residents of Antipolo City.

The driver of the ill-fated car was identified as Juanito Magsino.

"Kumpirmado na may apat tayong patay (it's confirmed that we have four fatalities)," Manongdo said.

The accident happened when the victims' black Honda Civic slammed into the back of a truck.

"Hindi ito head-on, ito ay iisang linya at bumangga sa likod (This is not a head-on collision, the two vehicles were on the same lane)," Manongdo said.

He added that they are checking if the accident was due to illegal drag racing or if alcohol was involved. At present, he said investigators are trying to obtain access to CCTV footage in the area. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
