4 missing fishermen rescued in Pangasinan

Four Filipino fishermen who were earlier reported missing in Pangasinan have been rescued by a cargo vessel, according to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Sunday.

PCG spokesperson Rear Admiral Armand Balilo said that M/V Deryoung Space from Hong Kong was traversing through Agno, Pangasinan on Saturday when its crew spotted the four fishermen floating on the sea, according to a report by Luisito Santos on Super Radyo dzBB.

The Filipino crew of the cargo vessel then rescued the fishermen who have been reported missing since Friday, November 17.

The fishermen’s boat sank earlier due to bad weather.

PCG commandant Admiral Ronnie Gavan thanked the officers and crew of M/V Deryoung Space for saving the fishermen.

The rescued individuals are set to be brought to the Coast Guard Station in Subic for proper coordination.

Meanwhile, rescue operations for the 16 crew of a chemical tanker that broke down in Badoc, Ilocos Norte, are continuing.

The tanker reportedly had engine trouble due to the inclement weather. —Giselle Ombay/KG, GMA Integrated News
