Autopsy of PCG trainee bares drowning as cause of death
Apprentice seaman Mori Caguay died due to drowning during a Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Water Search and Rescue Training in Cavite last November 16, results of the autopsy showed.
According to a "24 Oras" report by Chino Gaston on Wednesday, the autopsy conducted by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) determined that Caguay’s cause of death was due to loss of oxygen supply to the brain as a result of drowning.
No injuries were found on Caguay that could lead to other possible causes of death., the report added.
The NBI assured that it will continue its investigation to determine whether Caguay’s trainers are liable for the incident.
The PCG said trainers would face punishment if found responsible for the trainee's death.
Caguay was one of the two trainees who recently died during the water rescue course of the Coast Guard. The other reported death occurred during a training in Palawan on November 15.
The PCG has since denied speculations that the deaths resulted from hazing or initiation rites. It added it will cooperate with the NBI in its probe.—Jiselle Anne Casucian/LDF, GMA Integrated News
