Worker dead in fireworks factory explosion in Bocaue, Bulacan

A fireworks factory worker died in Bocaue, Bulacan after a firecracker or “kwitis” suddenly exploded.

According to John Consulta’s “24 Oras” report, victim Rizza Villanueva was making firecrackers on Wednesday when the deadly explosion occurred.

The 45-year-old victim sustained injuries on her leg and was rushed to the hospital. She succumbed to blood loss.

“Nakaupo siya. Nasa isang bubong po siya, eh. Isang kubo.

(She was sitting in a hut. She sustained injuries in her lower extremities. The doctor said her cause of death was loss of blood.)

A source said Villanueva’s remains were cremated.

Mondejar said the factory has a permit to make fireworks. He also said the incident was “isolated."

(The police, LGU, and BFP are strictly monitoring public safety. We are checking firecracker stores and factories to see if they are adhering to procedures and safety tips. We also re-check establishments we already inspected.)

Meanwhile, the Bulacan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) said it is strengthening its monitoring in the province as part of its program for public safety in using firecrackers.

Nandyan ang ating PNP, at ating provincial government to assist mismo 'yung local government. Ito naman are for safety. Ireport lang nila,” said Bulacan PDRRMO chief Manuel Lukban.
